Part 1
So, I have a question for you: Can you think about an area in your life you would like God to strengthen you in? Maybe you’ve decided to quit on a project you committed to. You ran out of steam, and lost motivation; or maybe it’s an educational goal- you’re doubting your capacity? Could be you’re troubled about giving into some temptation, the world’s pull is stronger than your will to do what’s right- in the workplace, or a relationship. Or you’re frustrated about a situation you’ve lost control with, and you’re fighting to get it back. Maybe- you’re in a battle of wills?
The good news is God promises to provide the strength you need to carry on, be brave, overcome, and complete your assignment! Your secret power to God’s strength in all these areas is to P.R.A.Y. One of my favorite books on prayer: A Praying Life by Paul E. Miller. He says, “God takes everyone He loves through a desert. When we don’t receive what we pray for or desire, it doesn’t mean that God isn’t acting on our behalf. Rather, He’s weaving His story.” I think of Prayer being like a person getting into an elevator. You stop, press the button, wait for the elevator to arrive on your floor, then enter in. Once you get into the elevator of prayer, no matter what’s going on in your life -you always go up- Cause you’re spending time with God!
#1 is P for PERSEVERE: Ephesians 6:18, “Praying always with all prayer and supplication in the Spirit, being watchful to this end with all perseverance and supplication for all the saints.” Sometimes we just feel like throwing in the towel. We’re convinced the situation is hopeless, so we’re going to give it up- quit! However, God’s plans for us are usually revealed step by step- it’s a process! That’s why praying gives us the strength to keep moving forward. God builds character in us through other people in our path. That’s why it’s vital we don’t isolate- we need to stay in community with believers, who love, support & help hold us accountable. Not only will these relationships change us, require endurance, but they also grow us stronger. So, let’s press in to building healthy relationships, and stand in the gap for our brothers and sisters in Christ.
