Jesus rode into Jerusalem on a donkey that day Christ followers remember as “Palm Sunday.” He wept for the people of the city even as they sang “Hosanna to the King, our Savior has come”. They believed Jesus had come to bring them an earthly kingdom and victory over Roman domination, but Jesus didn’t come for that reason. God humbled Himself to save lost humanity from sin, becoming a man who would die on a wooden cross. (John 12:12-15)

Lent devotional thought: Jesus prayed to His Father for strength to complete His mission. So can you and I! “They came to a place which was named Gethsemane; He said to His disciples, “Sit here while I pray….”He began to be troubled and deeply distressed…He said to them, “My soul is exceedingly sorrowful, even to death. Stay here and watch.” He went a little farther, and fell on the ground, and prayed that if it were possible, the hour might pass from Him…He said, “Abba, Father, all things are possible for You. Take this cup away from Me; nevertheless, not what I will, but what You will.”

We can learn valuable lessons on maintaining JOY throughout the business of life and everyday challenges by observing the wise men of old, who followed the star. As they traveled from Persia to Israel they were intent on two things: (1) Seeking Jesus. (2) Worshipping Jesus. May we follow the Magi’s example as an everyday practice and find joy overcoming discouragement, depression and downcast souls. “When they saw the star, they were filled with joy! They entered the house and saw the child with His mother, Mary, and they bowed down and worshiped Him. Then they opened their treasure chests and gave Him gifts of gold, frankincense, and myrrh.” (Matthew 2:10-11)
