3rd week of Advent: Time to celebrate the JOY!!
I am impressed by the joy the Magi expressed! These men were not magicians, but men of integrity, influential and well educated in all areas, including Jewish studies. They are commonly known as the Wise men who traveled from Persia, or modern day Iran. Their exceedingly great joy must’ve come from (1)Seeking Jesus- as they traveled over 800 miles through rigorous challenges, to follow the star. They didn’t quit in their pursuit seeking the King born from heaven; even after encountering the evil obsessive, power hungry king of Judea. (2)Their joy also came from worshipping Jesus, no matter what this action involved! To get into that amazing place to worship the Christ Child cost the Magi their own comfort, personal safety and expense.
The Bible tells us in Matthew 2:10-11:
” When they saw the star, they were filled with joy! They entered the house and saw the child with His mother, Mary, and they bowed down and worshiped Him. Then they opened their treasure chests and gave Him gifts of gold, frankincense, and myrrh.”
Joy is one of the fruits of the Holy Spirit. (Galatians 5:22-23) Because of God’s great love for you and me He sent His Son Jesus into the world, ushering in the Presence of the Holy Spirit. To receive this Joy which the world can’t give you, invite Jesus to come live in your heart, and you will get access into this great JOY!
Prayer: May we seek You Lord Jesus and express true worship for who You are-like the Wise men from the East. Holy Spirit, fill our daily thoughts and lives with Your JOY in the middle of all difficulties, disappointments, problems and pain, as well as in good times. We trust You God in this Christmas season, receiving the HOPE, PEACE, JOY, and LOVE your Presence offers!
